Regional Wisconsin Car Club Contributes Tools For Use in High School Auto Tech Classroom

Looking for a meaningful way to spread its gifting, Rods-N-Relics Car Club members enjoy contributing to the benefit of young future auto technicians.  For the Club’s membership, that means annual gifting on a rotating basis, to one of four Ozaukee County high school automotive tech classes.  This year, it was Carl L. Hader’s classroom at Grafton High School.

Classroom instructor Hader was given the assignment:  pick out what you need that would help your students the most.  The gift was a $2000 value in new merchandise.  It could be one single item, or a dozen or more.  Like all instructors offered this opportunity in past years, Hader had no problem working up a “wish list”.

In December, car club members delivered on their offer.  The gifts included:  A chassis wireless “ear” for isolating noises, a scanning tool, fuel pressure gauges, an air-assisted chamber tool, a master brake caliper tool set, a 1000# geared engine stand and tool trays.  The club’s gift comes from monies raised at its annual classic car, truck and motorcycle show (to be held this year on Saturday, June 27th) in Lime Kiln Park, Grafton, Wisconsin.  Car show sponsors are solicited to help defray expenses and support this cause.

“It is our desire”, explains club President Jeff Higgins, “that young high school students acquire the skills and thereby hold their interests in automobiles”.  Schools that have benefited from this program in the past are:  Mequon’s Homestead High, Cedarburg High and Port Washington High schools.  “That’s within the area from which we draw our club membership, so it’s the area in which we are most interested in serving”, said Higgins.

Grafton’s auto tech program is award winning, according to Hader.  Students the past several years have competed and won, in ADAMM (Automobile Dealers Association of Metro Milwaukee), statewide, and national competitions.

Now starting its 19th year, the Rods-N-Relics car show is considered by old car fans, as one of the very best.  Held in a beautiful park setting alongside the Milwaukee River, all club members turn out to assist in the various aspects of running such an affair.  Two members who are especially talented woodworkers, create hand-made trophies.  Car owners come from great distances to compete for RNR car show trophies!

PRESS RELEASE, January, 2009

Ozaukee County is fortunate to have a national award-winning auto tech-nology program in its midst – right here in Grafton, Wisconsin.  It is equally fortunate to have an organization like Rods-N-Relics Car Club, whose membership supports Grafton’s classroom, its teacher, and its students with a substantial gift of $2000 worth of valuable auto tech tools and equipment.   RNR raises funds for this annual giving, on a rotating basis, for deserving classes within Ozaukee County.  In addition to Grafton High School, Mequon’s Homestead High, Cedarburg High and Port Washington High schools have received like gifts in past years.  Funding is accom-plished when Rods-N-Relics holds its annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show.  Sponsors offset costs, and build the fund that makes our giving possible.  These tools were displayed in Grafton High’s classroom.  At-tending were (l-r):  RNR President Jeff Higgins, Grafton High School Auto-motive Instructor Carl Hader, and RNR Treasurer Peter Raymond.
