Ours is a slightly irreverent club. Please do not mind us if we tend to openly “jest” with one
another. It’s all in fun, because as you will realize, we’re all really good friends. Our members live mostly
in Cedarburg, Mequon, Grafton, Port Washington and Saukville but we do have members from Sheboygan, Milwaukee and as far away
as Mazomanie. Membership has been at about 45 to 65 members over the years with rides from the 20s to the 80s
Rods-n-Relics works hard
at scheduling activities all through the year. Perhaps not everyone will participate every time but if you like to pick &
choose the events you’d enjoy, I’m sure there’s something for everyone within this club.
The first event of Spring is ofter dreamed up by
a creative soul who provides us with lots of laughs. In recent years past, this has been a road rally, a cruise, scavenger
hunt, or a bus trip to an automotive museum.
Somewhere along the way we try to get in a couple of Friday Fish Fry Cruises. Once Summer is here, we enjoy cruises
weekday evenings to nearby taverns, fast food or custard stands.
On The Saturday of the 4th of July weekend, Rods-n-Relics hosts a car, truck & Motorcycle
show. These past few years, we’ve linked up with the Grafton Area Jaycees Holidaze Festival and held our event down
by the river in Grafton’s Lime Kiln Park. We’ve become famous for putting on the best and most friendly car show
and for the best & most unique club member made trophies in the State. Our show was first produced in Cedarburg at Fireman’s
Park in 1991 and has grown since then. A benefit to the community is a % donation from the net proceeds to area High School
Mechanical Arts Programs.
During
July we have also been invited to parade in Cedarburg & Grafton’s 4th celebrations. And we have been
invited in past years to display at Mequon’s “Gathering on the Green”.
Throughout the Summer, we often get together for perhaps
breakfast and cruise to a car show or two. Some shows we “enter”, and at some shows we go there to visit and move
along.
Then in September, we rally at “Saukville
in September” car show, in Grady Park at Saukville. We like to set up our club tent and a TV to watch the Packer Game
while we’re there, and then hold our elections for officers and the “Boring”. Also in September, we work
a fundraiser for the club at the Paramount Blues Festival by manning a food tent and selling dogs, brats & burgers during
the performance.
In October, someone always
steps forward to arrange and schedule a Fall Color Cruise. This includes a ride through colorful wooded areas, a visit somewhere
of interest, and a meal on the road. We also attend the Bavarian Inn Octoberfest (actually this is in September)
to heckle one of our members that plays drums in a German Band, drink BEER and just because it’s fun!
In December we party again. This year, it will be
Rods-n-Relics at Ralph Zaun Pavillion in Lime Kiln Park. This is our holiday party where year end awards, trophies and abuse
is dished out. This is a great party.
During the year Rods-n-Relics is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of a two-mile stretch of County HY 32,
just East of I-43 toward Port Washington. We meet 3X seasonally to walk the parkway, pick up litter, and head off to a nearby
restaurant for food and adult drinks.
On a more serious note, we raise money from the car show and the Blues Festival. From this we are able to give back
to our communities with modest donations to help the Schools. We have in the past also helped the Milwaukee Health Education
Center, the Ozaukee Humane Society and local scholarships for High School students.
We produce a monthly club newsletter…the OILY RAG and send
out email notices to remind members of events or other opportunities to get together and play! This keeps us all connected.
So you can see we have a little something
for everyone. Be as active as you are comfortable or just get the RAG & email to stay in touch. We’re just a bunch
a car guys & gals having “Fun with Cars”
